WVU Hospitals earns accreditation for nursing continuing professional development from ANCC

WVU Hospitals has received accreditation for nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This recognition reflects the commitment of WVU Medicine leadership to support the growth and advancement of nursing staff, positioning the organization among a select group of internationally accredited institutions.

“We are extremely proud of the work we do to keep our nursing team engaged, learning, and growing professionally,” said Heather Malcolm, M.S.N., R.N., N.P.D.-B.C., O.D.C.P., manager of Nursing Professional Practice and Education. “This accreditation is validation of that work and the investment we continue to make in our nurses.”

The ANCC’s NCPD accreditation enhances educational programs that not only benefit nurses at WVU Hospitals but also improve patient care in the communities served. The accreditation contributes by:

  • Promoting the highest professional standards to maintain effective strategies that improve professional nursing practice
  • Enhancing curricula for nurses to provide evidence-based education that strengthens professional development programs
  • Increasing credibility through adherence to evidence-based, global standards that deliver quality professional education
  • Expanding visibility by including accredited organizations in a nationwide, searchable directory
  • Increasing demand for continuing professional development contact hours, essential for building professional portfolios and maintaining certification and accreditation from ANCC and other licensing bodies

Malcolm emphasized the importance of this accreditation for both current and future nursing staff. “We want our current and future nurses to know that we are invested in them and are striving to create a place where they want to build and sustain their careers,” she said.
