WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital and West Virginia Wesleyan College hold 5K run/walk and health fair to promote healthy living

WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital and West Virginia Wesleyan College held a 5K run/walk and health fair to promote healthy living in the community.

The race, which started at the college, looped through the river walk and around town. There were 117 registered participants of all ages. The event raised over $2,400 for SNOW, the School of Nursing organization at Wesleyan, from race registrations, donations, and Zul’s sales.

Awards were given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall male and female. There were also 1st and 2nd place medals for male and female in each age category (6-12, 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+).

The health fair featured 16 vendors including WVU Medicine MyChart, WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital, Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel, Mountain Cap Family Support Center, WV Rural Health Association, Upshur Parish House, WVU Medicine Hospice and Home Health, Upshur County CERT, St. Joseph’s ED/Trauma Department, WV State Wildlife Center, WVU Medicine United Hospital Center’s Orthopaedic and Spine Center, West Virginia Wesleyan College Nursing, Community Care of WV, Fred Eberle Technical Center, CORE, and the Upshur Health Department.

The event had several sponsors, including a water bottle donation from Pop’s Furniture, a post-race snack donation from Rock Cave IGA, and a monetary donation from the WV Rural Health Association.
